The Power of The Bloggers

Sorghum Crow puts out a great blog, and I am a happy fan. But did you know that Sorghum's been up to so much more than merely posting the snark? Rather than complain about the problems of the day, Sorghum is doing something:

DEVELOPMENT: Can Sorghum Solve the Biofuels Dilemma?

Way to go, Sorghum. Way.

Gone Fishin

Okay, I haven't. But it sounds so much better than kids' yoga, treadmill, grocery store, garage sale, laundry. Doesn't it?

One week to opening day of the trout season, though. Ben "A River Runs Through Him" Wundrun will be missing most Saturday mornings for a while.

Go West to Hollywood,
YoungMiddle-Aged Man Wundrun

I won the freaking contest!!! I am going to Hollywood to enjoy the new restaurant by Gordon Ramsay! (His new season of Hell's Kitchen premieres tonight on Fox - no, I wasn't required to say that but it only seems fair). I don't know any of the details yet, but we get airfare, hotel stay and a $250 tab at Ramsay's restaurant.

Yayayayayayayayayayayayay. And whoo-hoo.

Don't ask, I'm taking Ben.

I will send postcards, if you send me your address!

(I wonder if any shops on Rodeo sell items Made in the USA?...)

Pardon me while I unbutton my pants

Halfway between Madison and Milwaukee is a truck stop called "The Pine Cone". Since I was passing that way near dinner time I pulled in. It's one of my favorite places. I ordered the turkey special. Actual, not processed, turkey with my choice of three sides. I chose soup (chicken dumpling), salad, and mashed potatos (from potatos that still had their skins on them yesterday morning). On the side is served a dinner roll. At the Pine Cone "dinner roll" is a euphemism for small loaf of bread. It's dimensions are four inches wide by six inches tall.

The tab?

$5.75 for dinner. $1.65 for diet pepsi. $2.50 tip. (Can you tell I used to waitress?)

I could make dinner for my family of four with the turkey and potatos I brought home. If it didn't cost me $15 in gas to get there, the Pine Cone would be my recession plan for feeding my family.

I love truck stops.

For Dr. Zaius

Evil spock turned me on to the joys of the Threadless Tee. If I knew Dr. Zaius' address I would send him this one. While I know that regular parcel post can be slow, I don't think it is 1,971 years slow.

What do you get when you cross mattyboy and Franiam?

Lolzchristians, that's what!

Also, while I am making fun o' the fundies (you're not a fundie, Franiam I did not mean to imply...), I thought I might pass along my score on the "How Good of a Christian Are You", written by someone who writes like a LOLZ christian:

The "Most Famous Song Written in the West"

When John Denver went to China in the early 1990's he was surprised to learn that this song was considered "the most famous song written in the west". When he performed it, everyone sang along.

I have personally witnessed the Jamaican and the German renditions (these aren't my videos, though). Wander through, take a bite at each.

Little Willy Won't Go

Dr Monkey von Monkerstein posted a 70's tune that rocked his world in the pre-punk wasteland. It was Sugarloaf "Don't Call Us". That led me on a reverie of my own. My brother used to love that song, plus I remember him dancing around like a fool to this one:

If you and me are at a bar and this song comes on you must know that I will grab you by the wrists and force you from your barstool and make you dance like one of the Peanuts. I may or may not scream like a little girl. Situations vary.

In case you were wondering, yes. That sweater vest worn by the lead singer is currently on sale at Old Navy.

Here's another song that brings to mind my older bro' with his stringy hair and military surplus jacket (you could stash film canisters of herb around the collar)

The Money Shot

If I had a million dollars I would not buy a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?) I would buy an

This is one of my favorite things.

When the Omnipotent Poobah posts his "Randomness" entries there are always great treats (and hideous gross-outs) behind his blind links. This is one he posted earlier this summer. It makes me happy. And guess what? It is Distributorcap's birthday. Here is your cake D-cap. (However, I'm not sure what Distributorcap will think of it - he has a love/hate thing going on with singing nun-nannies. )

But who can turn down cake? Zaius-take two slices, please.
