If You Live in South Carolina, I Urge You to Buy the New "I Believe" License Plates

Florida couldn't do it, but by God and praise Jesus, South Carolina's legislature approved the controversial "I believe" license plates. Asked if he thought the plates were a violation of the separation of Church and State, South Carolina legislator and bill sponsor Lawrence K. Grooms said "I didn't see a constitutional problem with it". Deep reasoning indeed.

It seems that proceeds from the plates will not benefit any particular group, so I give the Wundrun seal of approval to these plates. Particularly if you would go out and buy customized license plate frames and decals to go with them. Here are some suggestions:

As an aside: If you follow the link above to the story in the Christian Post, you'll find some hilarious christian comments.

Right off the bat Loretta49 gives my favorite
"This is beautiful and wholesome idea that gives you and everyone around peace and spirituality and anyone who doesn't like it, is a freak with a psychologycal problem and needs to go a psychologist and do not bother people who enjoy their religion and the peace and happiness it brings."

The Power of The Bloggers

Sorghum Crow puts out a great blog, and I am a happy fan. But did you know that Sorghum's been up to so much more than merely posting the snark? Rather than complain about the problems of the day, Sorghum is doing something:

DEVELOPMENT: Can Sorghum Solve the Biofuels Dilemma?

Way to go, Sorghum. Way.

Go West to Hollywood,
YoungMiddle-Aged Man Wundrun

I won the freaking contest!!! I am going to Hollywood to enjoy the new restaurant by Gordon Ramsay! (His new season of Hell's Kitchen premieres tonight on Fox - no, I wasn't required to say that but it only seems fair). I don't know any of the details yet, but we get airfare, hotel stay and a $250 tab at Ramsay's restaurant.

Yayayayayayayayayayayayay. And whoo-hoo.

Don't ask, I'm taking Ben.

I will send postcards, if you send me your address!

(I wonder if any shops on Rodeo sell items Made in the USA?...)

Pardon me while I unbutton my pants

Halfway between Madison and Milwaukee is a truck stop called "The Pine Cone". Since I was passing that way near dinner time I pulled in. It's one of my favorite places. I ordered the turkey special. Actual, not processed, turkey with my choice of three sides. I chose soup (chicken dumpling), salad, and mashed potatos (from potatos that still had their skins on them yesterday morning). On the side is served a dinner roll. At the Pine Cone "dinner roll" is a euphemism for small loaf of bread. It's dimensions are four inches wide by six inches tall.

The tab?

$5.75 for dinner. $1.65 for diet pepsi. $2.50 tip. (Can you tell I used to waitress?)

I could make dinner for my family of four with the turkey and potatos I brought home. If it didn't cost me $15 in gas to get there, the Pine Cone would be my recession plan for feeding my family.

I love truck stops.

The President in the Swimming Pool

America's best senator happens to live not in my neighborhood, but about one neighborhood over, maybe a mile or so away. 'Jesus, Jess' you say. 'We had no idea you were a swell, living the high life in an exurban mansion accessible only through a large, protective, moat-like, gated barrier.'

Friends! I am not such a person, because the senator is not Trent Lott or John D. Rockefeller. The senator is Russ Feingold, and he really is a smack-dab-in-the-middle of middle America guy. My neighborhood is made up of older ranch style houses with unfinished basements and one car garages. (The Senator has a 2 car garage).

It is possible to run into Senator Feingold all over town. About a year ago, I saw him swimming laps in the lap pool at our health club. "Health Club!" you snort, "sounds prestigious!" "Not at all," I answer. "Just like the Y, and locally owned!"

I told my daughter that the next president of the United States was in the pool. Sadly, only a short time after we saw him he made the announcement that he would not be running for president. Still, whenever we walk past the lap pool my daughter asks "is that the president's swimming pool?"

I love this blog!

Axis of Evil Knievel

I found this blog on Pygalgia's blogroll about a week ago. The only thing that I don't like is that the author doesn't publish every day.

On the days that he does publish, he puts up an article about an outrage that occurred on that day in history. His tagline is "Another day, another pointless atrocity".

I'm obsessed.

Startling film footage that will rock the Monkey/Love campaign!!!

My mom went to an auction in Detroit. She bid on a box of miscellaneous kitschy stuff and found this old 8mm film in the bottom of the box. I just had to pass it along.

I was on the verge of announcing my endorsement of Dr. Monkey von Monkerstein, but this. This is making me rethink my allegiances. (Did you know that they called him 'Schlocky' von Monkerstein when he was a kid?)

This is too funny not to share.

If you've ever wanted to post at Townhall (why would you I don't know) you'll find that you need to register. And then you get lots and lots of paranoid schizophrenic e-mail messages and daily updates. The daily updates are like Huffpo but with lots and lots of misogyny, bigotry and good old-fashioned hate. They also send their loyal readers hokey get rich scams. So much for sharing the love. We know frightwingers would eat their own pondering only the choice of bar-b-Q sauce.

So today I got this e-mailed to me:

So I voted in the poll. I voted to support illegal alien amnesty. The results from the big group of mouth breathing next door neighbor neocons and hate mongerers?

Tada!:

Nice of them to provide links to such great organizations, too! Maybe I'll stop by and chuck some money the ACLU's way. (I am a card carrying member, but you guessed that!)

Do you want to know who I'd like to vote for in '08?

This isn't really an endorsement. As yet, I am staying above the muddy gallimaufry (Tuesday's word o' the day. I've been dying to use it) in the race among the Apes, Monkeys, Dogs, Frogs, Sleestaks and Attack Lesbians.

It is my fervent wish that the senator from Rhode Island would throw his hat into the ring. Why? Simply because there would be a Whitehouse in the White House.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, D-Rhode Island.

Too cutesy? Yeah, I thought so. Well, kiss my ass.
