m. yu's humble pie

m. yu who has the fabulous but NSFW bondage blog The Jade Gate and the political blog Social Seppuku wrote a post the other day about the heightened anxiety of Americans as our consumption-based economy comes crashing down around us. I loved the post and thought it would make a good movie. Here's the movie. You can read the original post here

The original post was striking, the whole thing set as a slideshow with music, more so. Yow.

I heard someone at work talking about how all this crisis was going to work out well, really, in the long run, for those of us with "good credit". It will be even easier for those of us with "good credit" and "jobs" to get BETTER LOANS!?! Yep. Whistle past that graveyard.

Nicely done. It's a photo essay on world suffering crossed with Hot Chicks with Douchebags. It also reminds me of the proudly selfish young Republican brigade in Robert Downey's political doc years back.

It's really difficult to change someone's value system, though.

I feel really sorry for the people so invested in their "stuff" that they're freaking out, the same way I feel for heroin addicts.

No, I don't agree with their drug of choice. Yes, I feel that "drug" is ruining humankind and altering the environment. But I don't feel the schadenfrude. (Did I spell that right?)

I feel appalled and saddened. And fearful that some demagogue can grip their fear-addled minds right now.

(I forgot to tell you that was wonderful and thought provoking. Sorry.)
