Senator Palin Stevens Loses in Alaska

Look, I never went in for the fables the right wing told about Sarah Palin. Every single trope they threw up was easily dispelled by facts. The right loved to tout her resume as a corruption buster. Yet in the middle of the Ted Stevens Corruption Affair she would not commit to condemnation of his activities until the court rendered its verdict.

As grown ups we know that there is a valley vast and wide between the truth and what is actionable in a court of law. I believe that in ethics circles (not recently traversed by republicans) the term is impropriety or the APPEARANCE of impropriety. Palin could have, ball buster she's supposed to be, declaimed Stevens merely on the appearance of impropriety.

Well not only did Stevens get busted for felony indictments while our Sarah did nothing, now it seems the angels have found way for Stevens to lose his election bid.

There will be a D behind the name of the Senator from Alaska, one Honorable Mark Begich, which means that Mrs. Palin cannot dismiss Stevens and claim the job for herself.

Now, lets all sit back and see how she (retroactively) tackles this corruption.

I am still cofused by some of the coverage regarding Sarah Palin's rumored senate bid (including things that Palin said herself), but I think that Palin could have run run for any vacant senate seat, but not appointed anybody to fill that seat permanantly. She could have also made a temporary appointment of a person to fill the Senate vacancy until a special election was held. [ 1 ]

Thanks for the link, Dr. Z. I'm guessing Palin thinks she's got the votes to run for the office. But Alaskas dems and independents wouldn't have made that a cakewalk. She still has approvals of her governorship in the 60%-70% but I wonder if that could translate into a senate win.

I am thrilled to see Palin's obvious trajectory to the White House shot down in mid air by Stevens's defeat.
She must be in agony knowing that she'll have to waste "all that talent," the national adoration and the media attention while she languishes in her drab little governor's office in Shitlick, Alaska.
Now we get to watch her fail in her quest to get a $40 billion pipeline built, along with a bunch of other pipedreams.
Sic semper tyrannis, beyitch.

Now Palin can address her own ethical issues. Yeah, right.

By the way, you have an award waiting over at my place...

Which makes me feel like we just dodged a head-slapping moment.

Stupid Senators gave Stevens a standing ovation yesterday. They are so fucking out of touch.

I saw that prolonged ovation, but best of all was that swishy queen Larry Craig talking about Stevens's passion and "how cool it was he had an airport named after him."
Larry- here's a hint- do not use the words 'passion' or 'airport' in public.

Stupid Senators gave Stevens a standing ovation yesterday. It's such a great big old boys' club up there on Capitol Hill. The dems have welcomed Joe Liebermann back into the fold as if he's the fucking prodigal son. Ted Stevens, who has been corrupt from day 1 and was finally caught, gets honored. It's disgusting. Maybe that was the only thing Sarah Palin had right -- except that she is equally corrupt in her own moose huntin' hockey mom way. (Gag me.)

I suspect that Sarah Palin will hold up no better under prolonged scrutiny on the national stage than Tommy Thompson did. Too many skeletons and it is not enough to have the backing of the religious fundamentalists. The neocons are the ones who put Bush into office, and they are largely amoral.
