Come Dancing
When I was 18 the State of Wisconsin allowed me to drink in bars and restaurants. (We also drank in cars and in farm fields.) In practice this meant my friends and I would go to Rusty's on Thursday nights and drink 25 cent taps of beer. Half of the senior class of MHS had hangovers on Friday morning. They had a dance floor upstairs and pool tables in the basement. We probably danced to the Kinks, but I don't remember that for sure.
Well, they're tearing down the Palais. The owner of an Illinois-based chain of Mobil gas stations and convenience stores made an offer the owners of the bar could not refuse.
If Rusty's has to go, I just wish it was to something besides a fucking Mobil station.
Enjoy the Kinks. Not their best work, but boy did I love that song back in the day.
File under?
bastards,
cocktails,
fogeyana,
fun n' games,
poor priorities

I never knew what the hell Ray Davies was saying. "Pally?" What the?
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Sorry they knocked it down.
I think this is a tip-top Kinks song, but that's just me. Ray Davies belongs with the best of the British invasion songwriters from the so-called "famous" bands. You know, the Lovable Moptops, the Dirty Boys From London and the Guys Who Hate Their Instruments.
It'll be like going to Wisconsin!
The first legal public drinking I did was there. I was with my mother in a bar and grill in Green Bay. Too bad about your dissapearing memories.
Funny, I was just talking about the Kinks with my bandmates last night (12/01). I was telling them I don't think the Kinks have received the recognition they deserve when compared to other groups of their era. And here Matty Boy is saying the same thing on the same day, although he beat me to it by 10 hours or so.
It seems every time I turn around they've torn down, or torn up, another cool place so they can put up another Cheeseburger in Paradise or something equally heinous.
When I was a kid they turned my favorite toy store into a travel agency. I know that things change, that doesn't mean I have to like it.
What Dr. Z. said. I hate to see buildings that hold our memories just be obliterated.
Especially so that yet another gas station can be built?
And a Mobil to boot; effing seal-killer (Exxon) sellouts.
